The Gabella Gate of Serravalle leads to the ancient customs post. Built in the 14th century, it features a round arch and connects the ancient walls to the New Fortress.

From the walls of Serravalle, the Gabella Gate opens, once leading to the ancient customs post at the foot of the castle. This past is still visible today: the old houses in the Gabella district preserve inscriptions, and remnants of historic activities. The gate features a round arch resting on moulded corbels, located in a section of the walls likely built in the early 14th century. At that time, the construction of the New Fortress on the Lucchese side significantly extended the settlement’s perimeter, requiring the integration of the older walls with newer fortifications.
