The Palazzo Pretorio of Serravalle Pistoiese, once a center of justice, now preserves historical memory in its municipal archive.
The Palazzo Pretorio, adjacent to the ancient Palazzo del Podestà in Serravalle Pistoiese, retains very little of its original medieval structures.
One of its most significant aspects is its role in preserving historical memory. The building, which from the 16th century served as a center for administering justice, originally housed the old prisons—of which only a small wooden door remains today. The stone frame bears an inscription on the architrave: BERNARDO DI NACCIO SIRIGATTI. P.A.A.D MDXCVII.
The underground chambers have been restored and now house the Historical Archive of the Municipality of Serravalle Pistoiese. This archive is a valuable resource for historians, researchers, and enthusiasts of local history, preserving documents spanning centuries of administrative and social history.
