The Via Romea Strata passes through Serravalle Pistoiese on the Pistoia-San Baronto stage, part of the ancient medieval route that led pilgrims to Rome.

The Romean roads were routes that, since the Middle Ages, pilgrims followed to reach Rome from northern Italy and northeastern Europe.

Of the ancient paths, eight are still passable today, and one of them also crosses the Pistoia area and the municipality of Serravalle Pistoiese.

The modern Via Romea Strata, whose reference point in Italy is the Diocese of Vicenza, starts from the Baltic Sea, passes through Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Austria, then enters Italy at Tarvisio, crossing five Italian regions over a distance of more than 1,300 km.

In Tuscany, the Via Romea Strata enters from Passo di Croce Arcana, in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, and reaches Pistoia. The Pistoia-San Baronto stage passes through the municipality of Serravalle Pistoiese.
