Serravalle: a hamlet in music

For over twenty years, Serravalle Pistoiese has been a key destination for music lovers, thanks to Serravalle Jazz, a festival dedicated to the Italian and contemporary jazz scene, held in the evocative setting of the Rocca Nuova in late August.

Founded in 2001, thanks to the musical and organizational partnership with Barga Jazz and the Big Band, the festival has hosted leading names from Italy and around the world, such as Tullio de Piscopo, Lee Konitz, Enrico Rava, Renato Sellani (in whose memory an award is presented every year during the event), Kenny Wheeler, John Surman, Gianluca Petrella, Giovanni Guidi, Fabrizio Bosso, and Danilo Rea.

Over the years, great attention has been given to top-level Tuscan musicians, such as Nico Gori, Mauro Grossi, Riccardo Tesi, Barbara Casini, Stefano Cocco Cantini, Jacopo Fagioli, and many others.

Each edition revolves around a specific theme, and the program includes, in addition to musical events, meetings with artists, book presentations, and in-depth discussions, offering a rich experience designed for both enthusiasts and newcomers to this extraordinary genre that has shaped the history of music.

From Jazz to Rock

Since 2016, in late July, the Serravalle Rock festival has been held, focusing on the Italian independent scene, with some international guests, including Vök, Priest, Holy Nothing, and Thomas Frank Hopper.

From Rock to Opera

For lovers of classical music and opera, at the end of June, the walls of the Rocca Nuova resonate with the arias of the most famous composers, from Mozart to Mascagni, from Puccini to Verdi, during the Serravalle Opera festival.

There’s Room for Blues Too

For several years now, Blues Clinics have also been held in Serravalle. This educational project was created in collaboration with the Pistoia Blues Festival.
