Along the San Jacopo Way, an itinerary from Pistoia to Serravalle invites you to immerse yourself in the spirit of the journey and admire the stunning natural landscapes.

The Cammino di San Jacopo follows the ancient Roman road Cassia-Clodia, which connected Rome to the port of Luni, passing through Florence. Since the Middle Ages, pilgrims and merchants have travelled these roads, made famous by the presence of the relic of the Apostle Jacopo, which arrived in Pistoia from Galicia in 1145 and is still preserved inside the Cathedral of San Zeno.

Today, the route stretches from Florence to Livorno, passing through Prato, Pistoia, Lucca, and Pisa. From the top of the Torre del Barbarossa, you can take in the breathtaking view that encompasses both the beginning and the end of this pilgrimage journey.

TAPPA 1

Pistoia

A city of Roman origin, Pistoia experienced its golden age between the 12th and 13th centuries. The treasures enclosed within its still-visible walls have earned it the title of a city of art. Piazza del Duomo brings together the most important buildings: the Cathedral of San Zeno, the Baptistery of San Giovanni, the Ancient Bishops’ Palace, Palazzo di Giano (home to the Town Hall), and Palazzo del Podestà, the historic and current seat of the Court.

TAPPA 2

Old Fortress and Barbarossa Tower

Built in the 12th century, the fortress guarded the pass between Pistoia and Lucca. Today, only a 40-meter-high tower remains, once a strategic watchpoint. The medieval Statutes strictly regulated surveillance, assigning it to wealthy citizens under severe restrictions.
