Developing since the 18th century, Cantagrillo serves as a connection point between the Pistoia plain, Montalbano, and Valdinievole.

In the 18th century, the Montemagni family built their villa on the hill known as Cantagrillo, nestled among the lush slopes between Pistoia and Casalguidi. Around the villa, a settlement developed, becoming the economic hub of the area and expanding towards Montalbano, thus creating a connection between Pistoia and San Baronto.

The area took on the name Cantagrillo and, in addition to linking the Pistoia plain with the foothills of Montalbano, became a key junction connecting the localities of Cecina, in the municipality of Larciano, and Montevettolini.

Thanks to its vast fertile lands and abundant water resources, the area was initially dedicated primarily to agriculture.
